Van Gogh, Gauguin, and the Post-Impressionists - All Levels

SAC - P19SWS03 Van Gogh
Post-Impressionists extended Impressionism whilst rejecting its limitations: they continued using vivid colours, often with thick application of paint and real-life subject matter. Among the nascent generation of artists responding to Impressionism were Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh. They could not have known the impact on expressionism that their art would have. The rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold colour of their paintings had a far-reaching influence in the 20th century and beyond. With this generation of masters as our inspiration, this workshop will focus on the elements that made modernism possible, colour and design having a certain independence from subject matter. Whatever your style and preferred medium, a lot can be learned from the post-impressionists.

From Rembrandt to Renoir: Portraits, Classical and Modern - All Levels

SAC - P19SWS05 From Rembrandt
Rembrandt’s portraits are regarded as some of the greatest creative triumphs in the wide field of portraiture. His self-portraits form a unique and intimate biography, in which the artist surveyed himself without vanity and with utmost sincerity. Renoir painted in pure impressionist style, suggesting the details through freely brushed touches, so that his figures softly fuse with one another and their surroundings. The warm sensuality of Renoir’s style has made his paintings some of the most well known master works in the history of art. Whether your interest is in classical or contemporary, join us for an inspired couple of Saturdays surrounded by Rembrandt and Renoir’s joint geniuses.
