Teen Portfolio Development  - Drawing and Painting Emphasis

This course will focus on developing students’ observational skills while focusing on tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition, and texture. Special attention will be given to portraiture, life drawing, and still life. Students will work from a model in preparation for the Canterbury visual arts interview. Through a variety of painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture projects, students will refine their skills and develop a substantial body of work. This course will cover all of the requirements for the Canterbury visual arts portfolio. Also available to teens wanting to attend De la Salle or pursuing their own interest in art. This course is open to new and returning students. Students are asked to bring their own sketchbooks each class. (Tuition includes one draped model.)

Please note: Taking the Teen Portfolio Development course is however not a guarantee that all students will be accepted in the school of their choice.

One Night on the Wheel

SAC - GPS - One night on the wheel
Have you wanted to try making pottery on the wheel? Here is your opportunity to enjoy one evening discovering the art of throwing clay. During this 2 hour workshop you will learn to throw one small pot. After the workshop our technicians will trim and fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in 2 weeks. Come and relax while experiencing the joy of clay. This workshop is open to clients 14 years and older. All materials included. Additional pots made if client chooses to keep them will be $7 +HST each.

Wheel Level 1

GPS courses
This course is an introductory wheel course. Class duration 2.5 hours for 7 consecutive weeks. The student will cover the basic techniques for the beginner. You will first learn the art of centering the clay which will allow you to make different pot shapes. Trimming a foot onto a pot and surface decoration is covered. Recycled clay included. No prerequisite is required.

Wheel Level 1.5

GPS Wheel Level 1.5
This course is aimed at students who have completed Level 1 and wish to advance, but still require more guidance from the instructor for the full 2 1/2 hour class. The class will progress towards more advanced forms including covered forms, bowls, and closed-in forms. One bag of clay included. Prerequisite: Be able to consistently centre and throw a cylinder as high as it is wide. Please bring an apron or an old towel to protect your clothes.
